LVX Summer 2013 Collection Swatches & Review

TGIF!

Last night's nail networking event was a wonderful opportunity to meet women in the business and meet new faces. I had a great time, and even won a raffle for a new smock! If you live in Colorado, I would definitely recommend attending Nail Talk Denver's next event.

Tonight I'm showing the summer 2013 collection from LVX, a polish line devoted to matching and predicting the world's top fashion lines' colors and trends. They're a luxury line, running at $16 per bottle.

The summer 2013 collection has 6 really pretty colors that align with specific spring/summer fashion trends. Click each color's below name to see which designs inspired it.
These gorgeous light shades really inspired me to create a soft, watercolor look. But then when I started mixing the colors, they felt tribal, so I did some simple geometric overlaps to change it up. Here's the final look I came up with:

The studs were purchased from Born Pretty Store. The technique I used is widely known as the watercolor technique, and I put a little bit of a spin on it.

First, I polished a base of the tan color (Rive, which you'll see after the jump). Then, I used a small detail brush (not as thin as a striper) to dip into three of the other colors, individually. Before striping on the colors in random patches, I dipped the brush in acetone, so it was washed out when I applied it. The whole look needs a good, random touch, so it's a great beginner technique!

Now let's look at the rest of the swatches!

Tribal Beach Gradient

A little afternoon delight for you. Not too long, not too short.

Tonight, I'll be attending my FIRST EVER nail networking event. Actually, it's really my first nail-related event ever. When you don't live on the coasts, you're not exposed to as much, so events aren't as common. Luckily, a reader told me about this event on Twitter a while ago, and tonight's the night!

In attendance will be nail techs and students from the area interested in networking about all things nails. Sponsors for the event include Elegant Glass, Famous Names, Frenchies Modern Nail Care, and Nail Talk Radio

If you're going, you can find me by looking for these nails!

The colors for the gradient are both OPI - Where's My Czechbook? and My Vampire is Buff.

#NailTechNailedIt: Weeks 13 & 14

Class is done! We've learned all the lessons from the book we can, so now we're prepping for our baby boards. As I've mentioned, these are practice practical board exams. We'll also be allowed to take tests called "The Hundreds", which are tests of 100 or so questions based off the real exam. We're allowed to take as many of these as we'd like in order to prep for the exams.

While we gear up for that, we're continuing practicing on real clients. Last week, I had three full sets of acrylics on real clients (not students or friends).

The first set here is a set I did on a 16-year-old client. She was a walk in Thursday night, and I accepted the challenge. Her sister was getting married on Saturday, and she was the maid of honor. She wanted a full set of a basic French, and wanted them short and manageable. As you can see in her "before", she had really short nails to begin with, so keeping them relatively short was essential to a normal look.

See her "after" following the jump!

Tillie Polish Swatches and Review

I would absolutely love to be wrapped in a warming towel, with hot stones resting along my spine for some real relaxation. Until I install a spa in my house, I'll have to settle for second best...a Tillie polish!

Tillie Polish is the brain child of a three sister team. Together, Andrea, Alexa and Amber (whose parents are a big fan of assonance) dream up collections of cruelty-free opaque polishes to be worn by lacquer lovers.

The lovely A's sent me three polishes to review and share with you all, including Hot Stone Massage.

Hot Stone Massage, shown here in 2 coats, is a grey putty color. It's tinted barely blue.

Show Some Skin needs three to four coats for this opacity. The creamy peach is pleasantly pastel.

Last but not least is Summer Nights City Lights. This warm creamy yellow is perfect. I captured another look of it on Instagram a while back.

The colors seemed kind of preppy to me (which isn't a bad thing), so I did a faux plaid look with two of them.

Pictures taken on different days...hence the sudden nail length change.
Thanks to the ladies of Tillie for the samples to review!

You can pick up your own bottle of Tillie for $8 from their online store.

This week, they're also holding a host of giveaways that you can enter for great goodies. Find out more!

These products were sent to me by Tillie Polish. The reviews are based entirely on my experience with the products and were in no way influenced by anyone.

My Guest Post on the French Blog, Maoya

Good morning and happy Monday everyone!

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of presenting some nail art and health tips on a French blog called Maoya. Its author, Orane, asked me to create a fun nail look as well as offer some tips for nail care. She even took the time to translate my words into French.

Here's a sneak peek of the look, but for the entire look, visit Maoya here. Check out the rest of her nail art as well. Her photography and poses reminds me of pshiiit, so if you like her, then you'll love Orane!

Thank you for the opportunity Orane!

Soft Tribal Gel Quickie

This past Saturday, clients were flowing in, but with so many new nail tech students, most were being assigned to their services. So I had the pleasure to do a Gelish mani on one of my fellow students.

She let me have free reign over her colors and design, so I decided to do a tribal look using my tribal tutorial, which you can try out yourself here!

Apologies for the somewhat blurry picture.
I love the way it turned out, and she told me she's been receiving lots of compliments on it.

Have you tried nail art with gel polishes before? Do you have a favorite gel to work with?

#NailTechNailedIt: Weeks 11 & 12

In my last #NailTechNailedIt post, I showed two Halloween manis, and my most recent post was a menu of Halloween looks I'm hoping clients will want to try on their manis or pedis. While I didn't have much luck getting real, paying clients to try the looks yet, I was able to practice one on another student, and I did some acrylic claws/rounded off stilettos on my friend last night. She will be going as a scary goth girl.

To get you in the spirit of tomorrow's holiday, here are those two looks!

What will you be dressing as this year? I'll be Duff Man (from the TV show The Simpsons). I think beer nails will be appropriate for the look.

Do you have any plans to incorporate your nails into your costume?
