Sation and ipsy Think Pink Nail Art

Miss Professional Nail (Miss) has announced a brand partnership with online beauty giant ipsy, a video community showcasing customized looks and product tutorials from the best and brightest of the beauty world. Love At First Byte and Of Corset I’ll Call You from Sation’s Miss Antoinette Spring 2013 nail lacquer collection, was featured in ipsy’s April “Glam Bag.” For $10/month, subscribers in the USA and Canada receive a themed Glam Bag with four or five deluxe beauty products, selected by ipsy stylists to deliver a finished look.

Miss asked a few bloggers to create some fun nail art looks showcasing one or both of these pretty pink polishes for ipsy and Sation lovers alike to enjoy! I was inspired by the name of the pinker of the two, Of Corset I'll Call You, and decided to "bust" out a "tight" and sexy look.

My thumb and middle fingers both got corseted up, while my other three fingers rolled up some fishnet stockings, with a base of Of Corset I'll Call You. It's all done freehand, using a striping polish for the fishnets, and a striping brush for the corset details.

I loved this look, and the soft pink of the polish (which I will be swatching soon for everyone).

Be sure to check out both Miss and ipsy on Facebook for more information about the Glam Bags and the Miss Antoinette polishes!

Grungy Glamour

I can't get enough of gradients, or as they're more and more often called, ombre.

My hair's got an ombre gradient, my favorite, albeit holey, sweater has a gradient, and my favorites on Instagram often contain a gradient.

This grungy gradient was inspired by this pin of ombre tights. The purple is from Savina, and it's called Dream. It also uses Black Onyx from OPI. The square studs are my package of Born Pretty Store square studs that I reviewed here

Color Society - Color Club Brights

Click the icon to visit the Color Society page.

Did you know I'm a member of the Color Society? This network of bloggers is sent out monthly samples of Color Club and Ruby Wing products to review, test, and share with everyone. Over a month ago, I was sent my first sample, which included six polishes, two of which I'll show you tonight. The other four need sunlight, so my usual 11:00pm posts won't cut it for those.

These first two colors are both creme polishes from Color Club: Wild Cactus and Flamingo. The Color Society knows what's up, because these colors rock and they complement each other perfectly, which bodes well for my nail art, which I have to show off first.

I added some neon yellow (Funky Yellow from Kleancolor) to the look to really make the two colors pop even more loudly than they do solo. Everything was done freehand, mixing up the sizes, colors, and directions of the triangles and their color blocks to keep it interesting.

On their own they're stunning as well, and their coverage was great! I have Flamingo on my toes, but let's not start sharing more pictures than I need to or you want me to.

Let's take a look at them on their own.

Flamingo is a neon pink, but it's not a hot pink. It's more of Barbie's shoes, which may be why I was inspired to put it on my toes. It's got fantastic coverage, getting the job done with just two here.

Wild Cactus is a dark teal leaning more green than it does blue. This also covered in two simple coats.

So that's the first installment of the Color Society posts. I've got some glitters and holos coming as well, plus who knows what else in the future!

Summer Vegas Nails

This weekend was a whirlwind. I spent it in the warm summer Vegas sun with good friends. Knowing I would be in my bikini all weekend, I wanted some super bright summer nails.

I snapped an Instagram picture before the chlorinated pools destroyed most of the look.

I used Funky Yellow (Kleancolor) and Jackie Oh! (Color Club) on top of My Boyfriend Scales Walls (OPI). Then I striped with a black striping polish.

Now I just have to track down the sandman, I'm sure he's mad at me for this weekend's lack of sleep!

Blood Red Bandana

A little Southern exposure for you tonight, with some bandanas!

They're not bloody or sweaty, but I was sweating to create the tiny lines, and the blood red is the lovely Snap Happy (Essie). The details were done with Alpine Snow and Black Onyx (OPI).

I had a bandana phase for a little while in elementary school. Unfortunately, living in Southern California, there were some bandana colors we weren't allowed to wear because of their affiliations with gangs. I wish I'd known about nail art back then, because this would've been an awesome way around that rule.

So if you're looking for a little Southern flair, but you're afraid of your school's dress code, try it on your nails. I bet they won't notice.

Boston Marathon Tragedy: Honor and Remember

Today marks a terrible day in the history of a long-running tradition of our country. It's a horrific and violent story, so if you have a weak stomach or fear you may be emotionally troubled by some of the details of today's events, please do not continue to read.

During one the iconic Boston Marathon today, two bombs exploded in the onlooking marathon crowd. Three people lost their lives, and at least 140 more were injured, some sustaining injuries so horrific it's astounding they too did not succumb to their injuries. Several people lost their limbs and there is no telling the kind of emotional damage everyone at the event inflicted.

Through all the pain and difficulty, I think it's important to honor not only those that were injured and lost their lives, but also those who so selflessly ran to aid in the tragedy. One man, Carlos Arrendondo, is captured on video and in pictures, holding the exposed artery of a young man who lost both legs during the explosion. (The young man's name is Jeff, and he is in stable condition.)

So in the wake of such an awful day, hold hope in your hearts that although every batch has one or two rotten fruits, the rest are a wonderful gift to be cherished and appreciated.

Be kind to everyone around you, and join me in honoring and remembering everyone involved in the bombings of the 2013 Boston Marathon.

The inspiration for tonight's nail art comes from the medal the marathon runners recieve. The blue and yellow colors of the medal, as well as the medallion itself are depicted. The unicorn on the medallion in this nail art is shedding a single tear to depict the tragedy, and the heart on the thumb symbolizes that today will forever be in everyone's hearts.

Cartwright's Blouse

I'm back! And I missed sharing things with all the readers.

For example, did you know that I'm shamefully running out of room for polishes as my collection grows larger and more colorful? Did you also know that I'm looking for a new pad for the summer? That means that my ever-growing collection will soon have a desk to live on, and an area to be stored in.

I've seen so many beautiful polish rooms, and so many great ideas for storage and organization of polish. Do you have a clever solution to your lacque-clutter? Tell me about it, I'd love to hear!

Tonight's look was inspired by an outfit I saw Karen Cartwright wear during a beautiful performance on "Smash" (a television show in the U.S.) Her red skirt had a gold embellished belt, and her blouse was a white silk number with black polka dots. It's almost a literal translation!

The colors I used include Peterhof Palace and Carmen (Zoya), and Alpine Snow and Black Onyx (OPI).

Serum No. 5 Swatches and Review

I've got some swatches and nail art for you today! I've actually had these swatches ready for a while, so you'll notice a discrepancy between the length of my nails in the swatches and the nail art. Don't worry, they're still my fingers.

The swatches today are from Serum No. 5. I've got twelve colorful and glittery swatches today. The consistency of the polishes ranged a bit, and you can get the details on that in the description of each polish.

My favorites in this batch include Mint to Be, Happy Special Day, Thanks for the Memories, and Girl's BFF. I used three of these in today's nail art, which I'll tease you with first.

The nail art was done with Mint to Be, Thanks for the Memories, and Girl's BFF. I also used a few other polishes: Mahogany Magic (China Glaze), Neely (Zoya), Case Study (Essie), and Black Onyx (OPI). I also busted out some micro beads from ages ago to outline my two little leopard hearts.

Now onto the swatches! You can get each of these at the Etsy Serum No. 5 store here.

Fallen
Fallen
Fallen - A fall glitter mix, this features copper shimmer with gold, red and orange metallic glitter pieces. It's thin, and looks best worn over another polish. I've used two coats of it over the complementary Life Preserver (China Glaze).

Mint to Be
Mint to Be
Mint to Be - I used four coats of this soft mint shade with nothing underneath. Though a bit streaky, the mix is a great concoction! The base is a sheer mint opaque polish with very subtle darker mint shimmer, plus larger hexagonal silver glitter mixed in. The sheerness of the base makes it perfect for jelly sandwiches, without the extra steps and bottles.

Call It a 'Treuse

Call It a 'Treuse
Call It a 'Treuse - If a dinosaur had chicken pox, I imagine it would look something like this. This is definitely something you want to layer, like I did over Def Defying (China Glaze). Green metallic shimmer base and larger pieces of magenta glitter. I didn't have any trouble getting the purple pieces onto my nails either, which was great!

Forest Lights

Forest Lights
Forest Lights - The shimmer quantity in this formula could probably be used on its own, though I imagine it taking about 4-5 coats to reach opacity where visible nail line wouldn't be seen. So, I used another base color for this swatch (Jade is the New Black from OPI). There's gold shimmer in the mossy green suspension, with larger hex pieces of glitter in colors from silver, kelly green, and teal. I love the name for this polish, as it describes it perfectly!

Spring Into Love

Spring Into Love
Spring Into Love - I love this one! Again, I prefer it over a base color (I used Portia from Zoya here). I used two coats of Spring Into Love for this swatch but I think I actually like it better with just one! I'd call this a princess polish, because not only does it have the pink shimmer base, but also pink, purple, and gold glitter pieces.

Rise and Grind

Rise and Grind
Rise and Grind - I think this may also be a perfect fall color to lay over some fall bases. I used Forbidden Fudge (Avon) as my base, plus two layers of Rise and Grind. Light brown and gold shimmer, plus copper and matte white glitter. I'm crazy about the matte white glitter, which you'll see in two other swatches from Serum No. 5 later.

Stormy Weather

Stormy Weather
Stormy Weather - If this is bad weather, then get me a raincoat, I'm ready to get out there. I really enjoyed this polish a lot. There's a silver shimmer base, with bits of blue, purple, black, and even a bar glitter, which is silver. The black is my favorite piece, and makes it pop, especially over the base I chose, which is Super Nail-tural Powers (Sation). I used two coats of Stormy Weather.

Pretty Blue
Pretty Blue
Pretty Blue - Honestly, I think Beautiful Blue would've been more appropriate. This thin, clear base suspends blue, pink, and magenta glitter and even holographic flecks. You can see that it didn't tarnish the base color at all (which is Tobey from Zoya). I hate it when glitters have weird shimmer that discolors the base color, but this one doesn't do that at all.

Starry Nights

Starry Nights

Starry Nights - Unfortunately, my picture isn't translating this polish well. The polish is a blue shimmer base, but it also has an irridescent purple shimmer to it, that comes out at certain angles. The holographic glitter are different than in most of the other Serum No. 5 polishes I have today, in that they're oddly shaped. There's a mix of square and stars! The stars are sparse and difficult to find though, and they do kind of perk up at the edges and don't lay flat. I used Celestial (Pure Ice) as my base.

Girl's BFF
Girl's BFF
Girl's BFF - Such a dreamy and lovely polish. I showed it over white, but it would bring a fabulous sparkle to any color! My base color was Purity from Zoya. BFF is a holographic conglomoration, with differing sizes and a wonderful consistency of various holographic glitter and shimmer.

Happy Special Day

Happy Special Day
Happy Special Day - Loving the name of this too. It's a very joyous and fun polish, perfect for a party or some other joyous day. It's made primarily of white matte glitter, but a full spectrum rainbow of metallic glitter and a few bars here and there really bring the party out. There's also some flecks of transluscent holographic shimmer as well, which you can see when you pair it over a dark base, like Raven from Zoya.

Thanks for the Memories

Thanks for the Memories
Thanks for the Memories - Black and white matte glitter in a variety of shapes and sizes, this one's classic. I will always love black and white glitter mixes. This one also has some holographic shimmer, which adds a little more depth when you use it. I used it over Almost Famous (Color Club).

So there's the glitter extravaganza that is Serum No. 5 polishes. Only one of them really worked as a polish by itself, and that's Mint to Be. The rest are best enjoyed with bases.

Which is your favorite? You can pick them all up at the Serum No. 5 Etsy store for $7 for a 9ml bottle and $12 for a 16.7ml. Right now, 20% of your payment will also be going towards a charitable donation! You can see some of the donations in the Facebook album.
