Summer Ain't Over Yet! OPI Retro Summer Swatches

With this being the official last day of summer, it's probably time I got through the pile of colors I have to swatch still. I could say I just did this last night, but that'd be a lie. I finished these a while ago (as I have with many others), but somehow, getting them into the blog to share with the people I'm meant to share them with doesn't seem to come so easy when I do nails all day already. Sorry about that.

So here's a much delayed summer post you can sob over as you bid adieu to bikinis and welcome oversized sweaters. Face it...that's what you've been looking forward to.

As with many of the designs I've been posting, I got inspiration for this from a pattern (whose artist I'm unsure of so hook me up with the name if you know it). Somehow, the pattern had colors that I could pull almost directly from the Retro Summer collection by OPI.

These were all done freehand with my Winstonia Berry Wine brushes and the colors from this collection (plus Alpine Snow and Black Onyx). My favorite part of these might be the blending of their head feathers with their breast feathers. It's subtle, but really brings them to life.

I used all of the 6 colors from Retro Summer, starting with What's the Double Scoop? for the base.

OPI - What's the Double Scoop?

What's the Double Scoop? (2 coats) is a milky strawberry ice cream creme (without the delicious chunks of frozen strawberries of course).

OPI - Flip Flops & Crop Tops

Flip Flops & Crop Tops (2 coats) is a brighter and warmer pink creme than Double Scoop up above. I used it as flower accents on the parakeet nail art above.

OPI - SPF XXX

SPF XXX (2 coats) is probably best described as what my white ass looks like after being exposed to the sun for approximately 9 minutes. "Sunburned coral" could also be the term used to describe this creme polish. Whichever suits your fancy.

OPI - I'm Getting a Tan-gerine
OPI - I'm Getting a Tan-gerine

I'm Getting a Tan-gerine (2 coats) is a lick-able orange sherbet creme. And it's name was constructed by a group of drunk dads.

OPI - Towel Me About It
OPI - Towel Me About It

I'm sad I didn't show you all Towel Me About It (2 coats) sooner than I did. I loved this color as a summer pedicure shade, even though I don't know many people daring enough to wear such a limey, buttery bright yellow.

OPI - Sailing & Nailing
OPI - Sailing & Nailing

Sailing & Nailing (2 coats) isn't just a semen's seaman's dream job, it's this pretty light blue creme polish.

So even if you're heading into fall, when that gets old and you start dreaming of summer again, grab the Retro Summer collection and get painting!
