Windestine Review and Swatches
One of my first favorite Etsy shops was Windestine. The creator, Freda, was one of the original black and white glitter creator, with two of my long-running favorites, Carbon Copy and Asbestos. In addition to creating amazing glitters, Freda's a truly outstanding seller. She individually contacted me when she found out that the polishes I bought from her may contain steel mixing balls that may leech into the polish. She offered to reimburse me even!
Since Etsy, she's moved up to her own site, now selling through Big Cartel. Asbestos and Carbon Copy are both still available, but she's also added some really dreamy colors. I'm showing you three of those today: Pele, Androgynous, and Snow Prince.
I'm beyond pleased to report that I absolutely loved these three polishes. They're on the sheer side, but that's intentional. It creates the sometimes milky, sometimes candy effect that brings out the glitters in the mixes. I'm so excited to show these today!
First is Androgynous. While I like this one a lot, it's not the best for my skin tone. I'm showing 4 coats for this one, with no base color. It would be unbelievable over a nude, which I regret not showing you in the post. Guess you'll just have to get a bottle of your own to try out!
The next color is Snow Prince. This is the milky polish I was talking about. I used 4 coats again with no base coat. The milky base has both gold and pink pieces of glitter. It's simple, but it's really a perfect mix.
I liked this polish so much, I kept it on for several days! I also did a little floral nail art to accompany it. Just like the polish, I wanted to make it a subtle design. Can you see all the flowers?
The last color I'm showing today is Pele. OH WOW. I really just want to suck on this color, like a Jolly Rancher. It's a true jelly color, sweet and delicious. I can hardly stand it. I'm actually wearing this polish again. I couldn't wait to put it back on after swatching! This is showing 3 coats with no base color.
I loved the application and recipe of each of these, as different as they are. I'll likely be placing an order for a few more, and you can too at the Windestine shop.

Voodoo Lacquer Holiday Collection Swatches and Review
Thanksgiving food is digested. It took a weekend of no posts to get there, but I'm digested.
I'm kidding. I was actually a busy swatching bee, prepping for this week, which will bring you three different reviews from three different polish companies. And since 'tis the season, you'll definitely start getting your fill of holiday beauties!
The cardinal collection is another Voodoo Lacquer collection. You'll remember my 'glowing' review of the Halloween colors, and as promised, she has released a new collection of chilly, wintery, festive colors!
She's got six beautiful colors which touch the winter bits of the season, as well as the Christmas aspect of it all.
One thing I noticed about these polishes was a strange film that seemed to develop around the neck of the bottle after dipping in a few times. I'm not sure what that was about, but it made application more difficult than I would've liked. It didn't have an effect on the final look of the polishes, except in Mulberry Spice, where it was just too much for me to deal with. Read more about that below.
I did like these colors, but Silver Bells and Winter Bliss are the absolute winners in my book of this collection. I loved Silver Bells so much, I wrapped my nails in it, and tied it off with a bow!
Now onto the colors!
The first color is Winter Bliss (5 coats). Don't be alarmed by the 5 coat bit. I used 5 coats without anything underneath, because I wanted to show you that it's an intentionally very sheer color. It would be beautiful layered as well, but check out how soft it is on it's own. It looks like Jack Frost kissed my fingers and left me with just a memory of the night. I really enjoyed this polish a lot!
Sugar Plum Fairies is shown with 4 coats. The polish is sprinkled with fine sugary grains of glitter. That little bit of grit in the polish looks best with four coats for opacity, but I feel like layering would work beautifully as well.
I was really hoping this polish was scented. It has such a beautiful rich color that really felt like a Christmas tree, so this was an appropriately named polish: O' Christmas Tree. This is just three coats. I suppose its one of those fake Christmas trees with the fiber optics though, because there's some hints of holographic glitter in there!
Mulberry Spice is shown with 3 coats. I liked the deep red color of this, but it was a terrible application for some reason. It very well could've been a result of the sample size bottle it came in. (Heather was running low on supplies so could only make enough for a sample size.) There was that strange film that sloppily spread over at each coat I mentioned earlier. I want to describe the texture as very kombucha-esque. That was hard to get past and made my nails bumpy. I tried my best not to show that in the pictures though.
Fa, La, La, La, La (2 coats) is the only piece in the collection that has a clear base. It's the quintessential Christmas polish, with its red, green, and holographic pieces of glitter. I layered it over yellow for a change.
Silver Bells should be called "Bling Bells". This color is AMAZING. As with all the polishes, there was the slight cling film, but it in no way overpowered the awesomeness that is this bottle. You can see the obvious inspiration for the name, but what you may have missed were the pieces of slightly larger holographic ingredients. You can pick those out in the bubble swatch best.

Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away Ribbons
Trippy. Mesmerizing. Magical. Vibrant. Kaleidoscopic.
What am I describing? Is it the words of someone's first experience with a spirograph? Is it a description of my polish storage?
No, I'm actually giving you the short version of what I see Cirque du Soleil performances being. It could also be describing Ben and Pete's experience at a show.
Coincidently it also describes the new China Glaze collection based on the upcoming film experience, Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away. This new collection is available now, and has some really vibrant colors as well as some modern glitter mixes. Think Marshmallow sandwiches with glitter, and black and white matte glitter. That's right...a large polish company has ventured into matte glitter territory, and believe me, it's amazing.
But more on the black and white glitter later. First, I want to show you some of the sandwiched glitter, It's a Trap-eze! This one's a thin white base with buried treasure of multi-colored glitter. When you bury the glitter beneath white like China Glaze has, you get what appear to be matte glitter, but are actually your normal shiny pieces, matted by the white. The result is stunningly bright.
It seemed only fitting to pair this unusual and awesome glitter with colors also from the collection, including Creative Fantasy, Surreal Appeal, Escaping Reality, Def Defying, and Hanging in the Balance. I drew inspiration from the aerial dancing the promotional images and videos gave us a glimpse at. This form of movement is done entirely on long strips of silky ribbon suspended in the air. Dancers twist and move around the ribbon, creating a spectacle totally appropriate for a Cirque du Soleil show, or in this case, movie.

Snap Happy Chauffeur
I have really liked seeing Essie swatches on everyone's blogs. After seeing Where's My Chauffeur over at Pshiiit, I really wanted it.
I saw it on the display shelf along with Snap Happy and knew they needed to be paired together. Corals, reds and oranges all work so perfectly with teals already, but these two were meant to be together. It was pure love when I added Purity (Zoya) to the mix as well.

The End of a Delicious Era
As a tribute to one of the tastiest brands that fostered many breakfasts and breaks in high school, I present, my Hostess nails.
If you haven't heard, or you're not from a country where Hostess brand snackums are sold, you can read more about Hostess and how it's closing here. They made some of the US's favorite snacks, including Twinkies and their Cup Cakes.
I used Get in the Expresso Lane (OPI) and Purity (Zoya).
Rest in peace Hostess. You will be missed.

Everyone's seen the hexagonal glitter and sequins (glequins) rocking the nail world.
Oh you haven't? Well...look at The Nailasaurus and Polish All the Nails. They know what's up.
It seems that the opaque metallic glitter is everywhere, so I wanted to review the clear sheets of glitter for you today from Born Pretty.
This package of 12 colors does come with two solids (gold and silver), but the other ten aren't opaque, and see-through like flakies.
The pots are smallish, but there's SO much glitter it's a bit insane. I have no complaints about it, and recommend them if you're interested at all in glequins. Especially at only $6.03 for all 12.
I decided to use five of the colors on my five nails, and yes, they're Christmas colored. Fall ended really quickly, and winter's here, and I AM READY. So this is officially my first Christmas mani.

A Rich Experiment
Zoya's little black box with three lovely little bottles has been staring me down every time I sit on the couch. Tonight, I finally decided to confront it.
The result is a pearly pink golden beauty of a manicure!
I used Heavenly (Savina) as a base, and painted on a lovely light layer of Electrical Storm (Sation) over it. Then I topped it with the golden Gilty from Zoya.
I used some different lighting to capture all the beautiful colors, but those are still my hands!

I haven't been able to stop thinking about a Vegas trip coming up in February. I'm gonna do it right this time! Blackjack, In n' Out, strip clubs.
Okay, maybe not strip clubs. And definitely no poker games. I'm a terrible liar and I wouldn't be able to pull face in the slightest.
In honor of this upcoming trip, I did another card suit mani. This one uses some amazing colors from OPI: Skull & Glossbones, Black Onyx, and An Affair in Red Square.
I decided to add a matte topcoat to this, based on the inspiration I came across on Pinterest (here).
Maybe when I go to Vegas there will be some bottles like that available!

Two-Bottle Nail Art Competition Winner!
Thank you to everyone who entered the two-bottle nail art competition. I would say it was an outstanding success! I was introduced to many new blogs and readers I'd never heard of before or interacted with, and will definitely be following several of them now.

I'm happy to say that since the announcement of the competition, Nailed It has gained over 150 more readers, as well as over 275,000 more page views! It has been so exciting to see such a jump in readership, and I have many of you spreading the word about the blog and the competition to thank for that.
After much deliberation and back and forth, I've finally decided on a winner for the contest! I've emailed her and hope to hear back from her soon. I must say, with so many great entries, colors, designs, and creativity in the theme, it was not an easy choice, but the winner is...

No H8 Nails
Bullying is not funny. It is not cool. It is not right. And more importantly, it is not okay.
Most of us are, thankfully, residents of countries that support tolerance and many of our families have settled in these places simply for that reason. Generations later, it is our responsibility to perpetuate that message of tolerance across our new social platforms, including the internet.
As members of the nail polish blogging community, we all share a love of beauty, color, and lacquer. Other than that, we are remarkably different: from our race to our religion to our hair color...even to our polish application techniques. To marginalize anyone because of those differences is completely unacceptable and today I take a stand against that. I refuse to allow other people's view of "normal" dictate how I behave, believe, and blog.
In solidarity with a multitude of bloggers linked below, my purple manicure represents my proud commitment to the No H8 movement. Today, November 8, I dedicate my post to ending bullying of any kind and to encouraging diversity and imperfection among our colorful community.
Have people forgotten one of the cardinal rules? Do unto others? If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all?
I have personally experience some hateful things in the polish community. I once confronted a contest entry that was using my nail art to win a contest. I asked them to remove the entry as it was mine (and breaking the rules of the contest). It turned into one of the worst and most hateful posts I've ever read. Two girls and their mother were primarily responsible for the hateful comments, calling readers in support of my request that the entrant remove the post "morons", "losers", and "retards". I couldn't believe that sort of thing was happening, and that an entire family had rallied around such a hurtful cause. The kicker was that the mother scolded me for not stopping the behavior, calling me a bully.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, just as everyone is entitled to a vote. You may not agree with that opinion, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But if you feel the need to express your disapproval, do so in a respectful way.
There are differences between arguments and discussions, constructive and destructive criticism, and being opinionated and being hurtful. Take a second to reflect on what you have to say and how it might make others feel before you express yourself.
There's a serious sense of commradory and community I feel when I blog and get comments from readers. It's this sense of togetherness that inspired tonight's No H8 manicure. Let's all support each other in everything we do, and leave the bullying to the bulls.

Each of the three sizes has four compartments in the wheel. It's a bit difficult to see the size differences between the three in the blue mani up top, so I did another for comparison.
Which mani do you prefer with the rhinestones?
I loved this wheel of rhinestones. The three sizes were all manageable, but varied enough that I didn't feel like I actually just got two sizes.
The rhinestones are easy to adhere, and you don't need glue. Nail glue will help them last longer if you're going for longevity, but a layer of topcoat as a sticky base, then another as a topcoat over the rhinestones and polish works just as well. (I personally recommend using Seche Vite fast dry topcoat, as it's thicker and lays well over the rhinestones.)
The easiest way to put them on is to use a toothpick with a little bit of tacky topcoat on the tip to pick up each rhinestone. The Nailasaurus shows you just how to do this using glequins, but the technique is the same.
To avoid getting bubbles around the rhinestones, try not to apply too many layers of topcoat.
