Sticky9 - Turn Instagram Pics into Helmer Magnets

Most of you have heard of Helmers, the metal Ikea drawers perfectly shaped for storing your most prized possessions...nail polish. They're pretty on their own, but they're just begging to be decked out with stickers, magnets, decals, or even nail polish.

If you're like me, your hesitant to commit to a permanent makeover for your Helmer, like a paint job. If that's you, then you'll dig this.

A company called Sticky9 is creating little square magnets perfect for your Helmer right from your Instagram pictures! These magnets are perfect for anything magnetic (fridge, stove, you name it), but as a most of you are nail lovers, the Helmer is the perfect piece to put these on. Here's mine!

To get your Instagram pics transformed into magnets, or even an iPad or phone case, visit Sticky9 and browse their collections. The site is easy to navigate...simply log in with your Instagram account and pick your favorite Instagram pics to adorn your new creation!

The magnet bundle I picked included 9 magnets, so I chose some of my favorite nail designs in my favorite color (yellow), and some non-nail related pictures that made me smile.

Additionally, for the remainder of this month (until April 30th at midnight) Sticky9 is having a 15% off promotion, so you can order some magnets for your mama in time for Mother's Day. It's a different way to display your art on her fridge!

NAILMates Review

If you've ever gotten gel polish put on, or put it on yourself, then you've likely also gotten it removed. Removal requires at least 10 pieces of foil and 5 cotton balls, plus a boat-load of acetone. Then, you have to sit there for ten minutes as the acetone works its way through the gel until it can be safely flaked off of the nail. It's probably the most wasteful 10 minutes of your life (unless your nail tech happens to have a stylus available for you to use on your iPad while you wait). You're literally trapped in the foil, which has the tendency to slip off if you fidget (which is inevitable).

NAILMates has come up with a solution to this that I've tested out myself, and love for at-home use.

NAILMates are small, latex-free caps that, when paired with their foam counterparts, are extremely effective at removing gel polish.

The caps (the actual NAILMates) look like tiny whoopee cushions. One end is open and the other is closed. The pieces of foam that are inserted into the caps match the rounded shape of the caps, and are dipped in a small amount of acetone before being placed into the cap.

Once you place the removable pad into the cap, you slip them on your fingers. It's much faster than fumbling around with cotton and foil, especially if you're doing the service to yourself. Slip all 10 pads into all 10 caps, then slip them on your fingers. Here's what they look like on:

The cap and foam combo not only stay on your fingers much better than foil, they also drip less, making the whole process super simple. And you don't need much acetone for it all to work. I just dipped the end of the pad into the cap of my acetone container. If you do too much, it'll drip, but they are clear about not using too much in the instructions.

I also like that you can wash and clean the pads for re-use at home, until the foam starts to break down. After one use, I didn't see any breakdown, which is good news for the next gel mani I try! If you'd like to try this in a salon setting, the NAILMate caps are also sanitizable.

Ultimately, if you do gel manis, you'll want to look into these. You can purchase them from the NAILMates site, and they're currently having some spring specials, which offer discounts including:
  • A set of 10 NAILMates and 20 pads, plus a file and an additional 40 pads for $14.00 (View Special)
  • 30 pad refills for $5.95 (View Special)
  • 200 pad refills for $14.95 (View Special)
Would you try these at home? Do you have any questions about them? Let me know what you think!

Color Club Safari Garden Collection Review & Swatches

Color Club's undergone a makeover, and to spur the excitement, they released a truly stunning collection of shades, called the Safari Garden collection.

I was immediately struck by the collection's cremes, particularly their off-white, Look, Don't Tusk. It's an amazing base, added to my favorite off-whites (among My Vampire is Buff, My Boyfriend Scales Walls, and others).

The safari theme inspired the nail art as well.

All the colors used are part of the Safari Garden collection, available here. For the swatches of each polish, follow the jump.

Loaded Lacquer - Swatches and Review

Tonight I'm tickled to show you a few glitter mixes from the indie polish company, Loaded Lacquer. After seeing the beautiful work over at Chit Chat Nails, I immediately went online and bought myself the same mix. (The amount of inspiration I draw from Chit Chat Nails is really quite large, so please go check her out if you haven't already!) Then Heather, the lovely owner over at Loaded, contacted me to try and review a few more.

First, check out the nail art I did with one of the shades reviewed below, Fluffy Macaroons.

The colors besides Fluffy Macaroons I used were On Cloud 9 and Enlightenment (Precision Nail Lacquer), Bottoms Up (China Glaze) and Blue Sky's the Limit (Sation). I loved picking out the colors that went so well with the glitter.

Fluffy Macaroons is such a girly, perfectly Easter glitter mix of pinks, blues, yellows and some iridescent pieces. Here I'm showing it over Steady as She Rose (OPI).

Moonshine in a Jar is the amazing color I was inspired to buy Loaded Lacquer for originally. Shown over Chantal (Zoya), the mix is gold and copper, and it's very dense! The ring finger is literally two coats!

The last polish shown today is Steampunked (shown over I'm So Ogre It from Sation). The colors are perfect for the name - copper, gold, black and silver. Just as cogs, gears and all manner of metal trinkets make up the revived steampunk style, so too does the variety of shapes in this polish - square, hexagonal, bar, and even some large circles. It's a little difficult to work with, so you need to apply with a dotting motion.

Loaded Lacquer has plenty of other amazing mixes to choose from, all available from the Loaded Lacquer store. I highly recommend these as toppers to spruce up the most boring manicure in the most exciting way! Thank you Heather for the beautiful polishes to try!
